Millions of people use ad blockers worldwide which puts a hinder to ads from myriads of services, Facebook included. However, things are about to change dramatically for the social platform’s advertisers. Facebook has just unveiled that they will be using a new technology to bypass ad blocking. Facebook ads will no longer be impacted by ad blockers as they’ll be using the same type of HTML used for organic content uploaded to the web for their advertisements.
The Details
Although Facebook ads will no longer be thwarted by ad blockers, the public will have their say in the matter. Individuals will be able to opt out of being presented with advertisements from Facebook by way of Ad Preferences. They may choose to bypass all ads from Facebook or they may choose to opt out of specific ad targeting categories. This means users may customize which ads appear for them, opting for specific categories or companies over others. This is a tremendous benefit for both advertisers and Facebook users. Facebook users may choose to be exposed to the types of ads they want to see which will further strengthen advertisers’ efforts by way of more targeted audiences for their ads!
While some people have expressed disdain for the move, Facebook stresses the fact that they offer the ability for each user to opt out in a fair and simple manner. They did research and realized that of the staggering amount of people around the world who use ad blockers, most don’t use them to block quality ad but to prevent their web pages from being slowed down and to block out spammy ads that may contain viruses or other malware. Facebook’s Vice President of Advertising & Pages, Andrew “Bos” Bosworth even made the interesting point that it will help allow many more people to be exposed to Facebook ads who may be interested in them. He continued to explain that Facebook ads are necessary as they make it possible to provide the free service to people around the planet.
“Ads on Facebook don’t pay for Facebook for one person. They pay for a service that’s free around the world. The participation of everyone really helps the global community.” – Andrew Bosworth
The latest update to Facebook Advertising stands to make advertising opportunities on the platform stronger than ever. Greater targeted audiences and wider reach are promising moves to improve marketing results on the network. Are you ready to plan your next campaign?
