You may have noticed something new on your personal Facebook feed recently. Facebook has been asking for the help of select users for a brief survey, via a link at the top of their feeds. The survey entails a series of questions regarding recent posts from your feed, asking you to choose which of two posts you would prefer to see. Then maybe the same post will appear again, asking you to rank it compared to a different post and so on and so forth. This survey has been appearing often, attesting to the determination of the social media giant to properly customize the News Feed in the best interest of users’ tastes. They are also researching with different users via a five star rating for “How much did you want to see this story in your News Feed?” and they have a Feed Quality Panel, over a thousand users questioned daily regarding their Facebook experiences and asked for their feedback on how content may be improved.
The New Facebook News Feed
Hopefully Facebook’s research efforts will prove to be successful as your Business Page will likely be affected. Although it is yet to be determined to what degree. Facebook says some Page owners will see increases in traffic, others decreases and still others may not notice much of a change. The algorithm will be changed so that posts that users’ don’t care to see will be far less likely to appear at the top of their News Feeds. Essentially, the new order of appearance will feature content based on survey responses, feedback and behavior on the platform – content users like and how often they like/comment/click or share content from specific businesses and friends.
Taking Action
This is yet another algorithm update placing a serious emphasis on the sharing of quality content. It’s important to not share updates to your Page with the sole purpose of maintaining an active presence. Aim for quality each and every time as the more your fans are interested in enjoying content from your account, the more likely your post will become visible to them on the social platform.
Users will be able to customize their News Feeds on their own by using a “See First” feature for Page content or content from specific friends. More changes may also be made via “News Feed Preferences”. It isn’t a bad idea to be open with your fans by crafting a post explaining the latest changes to Facebook in brief and how they may customize their own feeds in order to be sure to continue to enjoy content from your Page. It’s a great way to help your fans be proactive to ensure against missing out on the content you share.
