The latest social media redesign efforts stand to benefit both users and marketers. It’s amazing to see how quickly the most prominent social media companies are adapting to user and marketer needs and wants – no one is resting on their laurels!
Snapchat Strategically Redesigns Its “Story” Tab
In an effort to ramp up advertising dollars and benefits for marketers advertising on the platform, Snapchat has redesigned their Story tab giving marketers the chance to be seen up front and center. The “Discover” feature is now displayed prominently at the top of the Story tab for prime real estate.
The media companies featured in the Discover feature (People, Food Network, CNN, Vice and others) now receive an incredible advantage in addition to brands and businesses advertising within their spaces inside of the Snapchat application. The aim is to receive more views on the Discover page to improve advertising ROI for marketers as well as to increase advertising revenue for the social platform. The result is clean, easy to navigate and it doesn’t take away from the user experience.
Instagram Improve Its Desktop Site with Greater Functionality
Instagram’s latest redesign moves have gained plenty of attention including long overdue changes to their desktop version of the application. Their expansion outside of the mobile app continues with this week’s news of a fully-functional search feature on Instagram. com . Users may now search hashtags, locations and Instagram profiles on the website while enjoying relevant and visually-appealing results. The landing pages for locations and hashtags will also include top posts – a very attractive feature for marketers. These updates have resulted in Instagram. com looking a lot more like its popular application.
These changes are particularly interesting because of how long Instagram has waited to make any changes or improvements to their desktop site. In fact, most of the newest social media platforms (Snapchat included) are showing no interest at all in developing desktop presences. This is a great move from Instagram because if Facebook has showed us anything, it’s that while mobile is most certainly continuing to grow, desktop access is showing no sign of becoming obsolete.
So exactly how will these changes benefit marketers? You may enjoy the potential for greater exposure for your business profiles by way of greater reach, higher advertising impressions and more effective hashtag and location-based marketing for an expanded audience.
