Social media sites offer a great way for a person or company to communicate with people all around the world. The kiss of death for a company, however, is putting out a boring social media feed. I can’t tell you how often we see this. In fact during our workshops we teach that it is better NOT to be on networks than to be posting something that is boring. Why? An uninteresting Facebook, Pinterest, LinkedIn or Twitter feed will lead to disinterested readers who may stop following the company altogether. With that being said, here are five tips to liven up your social media content.
5 Ways to Spice Up Your Outgoing Social Media Feed
Slow Down
The Internet has plenty of content to offer, and people like to read about news and other events all day. As a result, some people have become addicted and start posting multiple times a day. This may lead to information overload, as people hate to read regurgitated information all the time. To combat this and avoid killing the brand, post on your Facebook and Twitter feeds regularly but conservatively… don’t post everything that is going on in your office that day.
Engage
Often, a business owner will post information on his or her Facebook page but forget to engage with the visitor. This can cause a follower to experience frustration, and they are likely to stop visiting the social media feed. Remember, sites like Facebook are about conversation and the page owner must communicate with followers while opening up the floor for feedback.
Value
Before posting, you should read what you are going to put up and ask yourself if people will enjoy the content. All too often, we see boring, irrelevant and uninteresting information posted on social media. While the poster may like what they have written, it may be a one-way street. Offer value in your social media and incentives to follow along. Otherwise, customers are likely to leave.
Tabs
Keep tabs on your social media accounts. When writing posts, follow-up on the responses. Ideally, visitors will respond in large numbers, and the account owner will not have any issues. On the other hand, if you are posting frequently without generating any engagement or feedback, it’s probably time to change your strategy.
Information, Not Sales
Some people try to make money on social media by pushing their products, services or ideas. While these networks are an excellent outlet for sales, try to approach it in a tactful manner. Think “soft” instead of a hard sell. Try listing the benefits behind a product or service rather than attempt to sell people on an idea outright.
With these five tips, you can run a fun and exciting social media campaign! Don’t be shy about asking for help, sometimes your audience and your customers are the most creative marketers!
