Social media marketing doesn’t have to take hours and hours of your time. If you’re smart you’ll learn how to make social media networks work for you. Knowing just a little bit about how they work can reduce your time commitment and help you increase your ROI. After all, that’s why you’re using social media isn’t it?
Social Media Marketing: Five Secrets From Our LinkedIn Workshop
1. Update your status regularly. You know those emails you get every week from social media networks that tell you what your connections are up to? Well, they are an easy way to get front of mind recognition from your network! Update your status regularly on LinkedIn to not only get into the weekly status email, but to show your network that you are following current events. That’s social media marketing 101!
2. Personalize your message to connect. Like the mail in your mailbox, a personalized message always gets more attention. Take a few minutes to write a personalized invitation to connect. Not only will you grab someone’s attention, but if you choose your words carefully, you’ll get your foot in the door!
3. Think Value. How many times do we have to say it? In social media marketing, content is KING! Remember that the Internet is like a buffet and your connections are sampling from many stations. Make your station a must-visit with content that not only provides value to them, but that makes them look smart when they share it. A little bit of quality insight in your updates can go a long way.
4. Synchronize Content. No, don’t synch your profile updates. Instead, think of each update as a mini social media marketing campaign. If you are speaking at an event, share the details on Facebook and Twitter and create an event for people to connect with you on LinkedIn. Share your slides or a brief summary after your event, and collaborate with the organizers on how you can use social media to help publicize the event.
5. Add icon to your email signature. If you follow tips 1-4 you should have a LinkedIn profile to be proud of, so show it off! Invite people to connect in your email signature with a hyperlinked icon. Let’s face it, clients and colleagues are going to do their online research. Provide them with the right accounts so they don’t find your doppelgänger.
We subscribe by the motto that it is better to work smarter rather than harder. You don’t need to spend hours a day to see a return from LinkedIn or other social media networks. Following expert tips like those above can help you see the value of social media without taking away from focusing on your business.
