Not to be left out of the major live stream moment happening in social media these days, Twitter has announced you can stream live directly from Twitter on your mobile device.
Twitter’s Live Video
You may have already heard about live stream and Twitter a long time ago because Twitter owns the app Periscope which allows you to broadcast live. If you wanted to incorporate both Periscope and Twitter, you went live and a notification that you’re going live would be tweeted from your account. In a move that makes complete sense, Twitter has finally integrated Periscope into its own design for live streaming directly from Twitter.
It’s easy… go to the Twitter app, select “Compose” and select “Live Video”. When you select “Go Live”, your stream is then announced to your followers and others in the Twitter-sphere with an instantly generated tweet. Like many of the other live stream options, you’re able to engage when you go live on Twitter. In this case, you can receive valuable feedback throughout your stream (and in real-time) in the form of comments and hearts. When you’re ready to end your stream, just swipe to the bottom of your video and select “End Video”.
What’s really interesting is the power these videos have over time. Users may watch live streams or go back to watch replays by any Twitter user on the network. To add, your video may then be embedded on various websites just as you can already do with any tweet. The possibilities for expanding reach are promising.
Live videos are searchable via Twitter’s website, app or on Periscope. Videos may be tagged with locations to also be searchable via Periscope’s Global Map.
Do note that live videos on Twitter are viewable to anyone and everyone who would like to watch your broadcast. You may block a user from commenting if they comment inappropriately but may not otherwise stop them from watching your content unless they happen to be an account you’ve blocked. Otherwise, if you’d like to host private streams available for select audiences, you’ll have to stream the traditional way – going directly from the Periscope app.
This should give you enough details to go ahead and get started today! Remember the rules of live stream video – have fun but think of your brand every step of the way. Live is live – once content has been presented to the public, there’s no taking it back.
