Small business owners, Facebook wants you to share the story of what makes your business special using the new “Your Business Story” tool.
Facebook’s algorithm has recently made it much more difficult to obtain organic reach so their latest offering seems to have appeared at just the right time. While personal Facebook accounts will always be number one, it’s a warm show of appreciation for small business owners. In fact, this new feature has been offered in celebration of their passing the 3 million active advertisers milestone. Interestingly, over 70% of these businesses are based outside of the U.S.
Facebook’s New Tool
“Your Business Story” makes it possible to craft a brief introductory video for your company which can be edited via photos, music and copy (text). You may edit your video during the creation as well as after having the chance to preview it, however, it may not be changed once it’s been shared. The video may be shared to your Page and it can even be boosted to expand its potential audience.
You may create as many videos as you want, but it’s recommended to just aim to create one high quality video to share that really gives a good representation of who you are and what you do. This is your opportunity to position your company or brand to show what makes you unique and why a customer may choose your business over another.
Video Works
It isn’t surprising that Facebook’s latest tool is a video-focused feature as the power and influence of video continues to prove itself in the digital realm. From Facebook Moments to Periscope and YouTube to Vimeo, it’s clear that the public enjoys watching video content so it’s a great idea to regularly incorporate this medium into your business plan. Why is video so popular? It’s largely due to a combination of the visual aspect and the opportunity it offers to consume a significant amount of information in a very short amount of time. We are visual creatures and we don’t always have the time to stop and read every article that appeals to us online.
Tips
If you don’t have a video marketing strategy, let “Your Business Story” be your introduction to the craft. Be sure to pair high quality, interesting images that tell a story with enjoyable music that suits your brand and copy that both explains and engages.
